Obama has not been doing anything for the average guy/gal in regard to oil/gas prices. He has not taking in Wall Street spectulators but has continued to allow them to rape the traveling public.

The old siren song: "Let's put the coercive force of The State to work to create the Garden of Eden."
It's been tried, folks. Over and over and over again. It doesn't work. Most dramatic case in point: the Soviet Union.
What does work here on planet Earth is leaving people to pursue their own best interests without coercion from People Who Know What's Best for Everyone Else.
But that would mean everybody would have to go to work to create wealth. Where's the fun in that?

Indeed, energy companies are only trying to make as much profit as possible regardless of who they walk on.

If we are about to start exporting crude, why is the price still so high? The U.S. should use more of it and stop importing.

Nixon called for oil independence because of the oil embargo by the Middle East oil producers. I think it is time to redefine oil independence based on the original intent. We export oil to Canada then import it back into the US as refined gas. Canada has been our friendly neighbor since the end of the War of 1812.
Doesn't it make sense to change the phrase "American oil independence" to "North American oil independence"?
I would like to see an article on how close we are to North American oil independence.

So what do you want to do about it? Everyone complains about the weather, but no one does anything about it. Unless you pass a constitutional amendment to allow EXPORT tariffs, you're stuck.

This crude oil is a national resource. We should have a say in where it's shipped.

I recall that peak oil was originally to occur in the 1950's. Then it moved to the 1060's. And it keeps moving. Peak oil and gas is subject to the changes and improvements in technology in production and price. If you think about it, gold would be produced today if gold was still $23/ounce?

We have a trade imbalance as it is... but now knowing that some of our exports are the OIL that we import? Mind boggling.

This article says what Big Oil is all about: HUGE profits. And, this one statement says it best: ... "the industry's deceptive campaign to make the public and policymakers believe... is just a smokescreen for selling the country's oil and natural gas to the highest bidder." Small wonder pump prices are so high...

sounds like north dakota is going to build a refineir sometime next year. An indian res. has been in the process for 9 years working at getting it here. Only be able to refine 20,000 barrels aday a start but when they stated to push this north dakota has since struck oil hard. now lets get more going
