DOTs warn candidates against blocking highway rights-of-way

GasBuddy Blog -- It seems like many of the DOTs across the country all had the same idea at the same time -- they're seeing political placards for local and national candidates for political offices popping up with great frequency and want to make sure that they don't impede traffic safety.

New York, Wyoming, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Georgia, to name a few, are just some of the states whose Departments of Transportation have either received complaints or fielded inquiries from residents or businesses asking for signs to be removed that may be obstructions to motorists.

And the politicians may not be the worst of the bunch this time... Wyoming's DOT says that while many signs are posted by political supporters, they're also seeing many from...

bston: around here, some of those signs get big and CAN obstruct the view, esp. in areas where you have higher speeds (i.e. 55 mph) and the signs are plastered almost right up to the road's edge.

While the signs may be eyesores, I don't think they're obstructions to motorists. Busy bodies.

These politicians have people put up signs all over the place and a month after the election there are still signs up all over the place. They should be held responsible to get ALL the signs down within a week of the election.
