Cali Gov. issues rare RVP waiver

GasBuddy Blog -- California's gasoline prices have skyrocketed, and finally in response that took far too long- Governor Brown is now prepared to do something. Brown ordered the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to immediately take emergency steps to increase the amount of gasoline available to stations to assist in bringing down record prices.

"Gas prices in California have risen to their highest levels ever, with unacceptable cost impacts on consumers and small businesses," said Governor Brown. "I am directing the Air Resources Board to immediately take whatever steps are necessary to allow an early transition to winter-blend gasoline."

Winter-blend gasoline is a mixture that evaporates more quickly than the gasoline sold in summer...

Moonbeam the Moonbat doing his SOP. They don't call the state the "Land of fruits and nuts" for nothing.

DesertBob- figures you were one of the folks who voted the clown in.

You are PROUD to post as "CapriceWagon?" Do you have a plywood spoiler on the back end of that tub of rust, too? Is it the same color as your single wide trailer home?

Go to a single blend nationwide. This is what too many regulations get you.

the whole summer/winter blend is a scam, esp. in the warmer areas of the country.

I don't quite understand Patrick Dehaan's statement "and finally in response that took far too long- ".
Patrick's blog of 10/2 reported the wholesale bump of $0.75 gal and said that retail had gone up 2 cents already. So the Governor asked for the waiver on Sunday 10/7. That's just 5 days. The reported reason was a brief power outage at a refinery that is now back online. When does Patrick think Gov. Brown should have reacted? Any earlier and he'd have been criticized for over reaction.

And for all you teabaggers that want blame Californians for causing our own problem because we enjoy clean air can piss off.
We already know our gas tax is high, and that having a blend to keep our air cleaner costs us. We the people of California made that decision and we live with it. Our prices are generally $.35 to $.40 more than national ave.
What we have experienced over the past week is a sudden jump pushing our prices up $0.50 over the previous week. I believe we are second only to Texas in the number of refineries. The oil refineries are predominantly owned by big oil, and they can build more refinery capacity with the billions of profit they make every month. Hell just the tax breaks and subsidies to them should cover the cost, but then they'd lose another convenient excuse to rape us at the pumps.

Funny when the Midwest got jacked by big oil, I didn't see anyone here blaming them for their votes (except Chicago perhaps).

Mnrick041 is probably right on the money about California being the only state with an air resources board. It's just another way to waste taxpayer money uselessly, keep your friends in power, keep yourself in power with supporters to vote for you, etc.

"Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe." steven chu, obama's energy secretary. This is a repost from Boo1989. It's true, Chu said that, and has since taken it back, but yet not really. It's their way and his way to achieve energy indepence. don't worry folks, you're gettin what you voted for with Obama, and even without him being in power along with his friends, we'll get there, to $7 to $9 a gallon or more for gas as Chu and others want. It's only a matter of time. Doesn't matter whether we have a Democrat or Republican in the White House, but I'd rather not have that foreigner Obama in there. He shouldn't be in there in the first place, and he is. He even said it years ago before he became President and before running for the Presidency in 2008.

Should have been done as soon as the shortage was first anticipated.
