Sadly, logic only lasts a few minutes with some...
Then it's the next TV commercial that swoons that same group.
Some need to learn the hard way then, they complain! :-D
I say...
Remove the safety stickers on "everything" and let the strong, intelligent, logical ones survive and reproduce. It works great in the animal kingdom! :-D

The study gathered 99.8% data on vehicles sold; not from surveys.

Ironically, it's when gas prices are high that you can get a good deal on a gas guzzler, so people are getting ripped off on both ends

not in the market for a new car. I usually drive mine until they hit Junior High age ... then they are all paid for, depreciation starts the upward curve again and a new one is not going to be so expensive lol.

well, I don't know whom they polled... I buy fuel efficient cars every time. Unless it's a towing vehicle, then safety feature are the #1 consideration (but then, those are diesel trucks, so compared to gas burners, they are already by design more fuel efficient than a comparative gas burner).

=> What people answer on a survey and what they actually do is totally different I don't believe the percentage quoted. <= That may be, for surveys. This isn't a "survey". It's a study, based on actual sales figures. It says right in the OP:
>> The University of Michigan (U-Mich) study gathered data from 99.8% of vehicles sold since October 2007 << - ain't no way around that.

What people answer on a survey and what they actually do is totally different I don't believe the percentage quoted. I have purchased 3 cars since 2007 and none have been because of fuel economy.
